The Austin Edit: Like Mother, Like Daughter

With Mother's Day this Sunday, I have been thinking about what a rare opportunity it is to work alongside your mum in a business she created. Glynis has spent decades building this business with instinct, grit, and a genuine care for the people she works with. Watching her do it, first as her daughter and now as her co-director, has shaped how I approach almost every part of my work. She has built a name in the Inner West of Brisbane that people still trust today, and managed it without ever sharpening her edges to fit in. I came into this business with a different background, a different generation's instincts, and a different set of strengths, and that is precisely why we work together so well.

What she has taught me, more than anything, is that resilience in this industry is the quiet kind. It comes from doing the work properly, year after year, and treating people the way you would want your own family treated. That is the heart of how our team works, and it is not going anywhere.

The business is evolving, and there is plenty ahead I am looking forward to sharing with you, but the way we look after our clients and each other came from my Mum, and it is the foundation of everything next. Sunday is not an easy day for everyone, so whatever plans you have, I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Thank you for being part of this with us, and I hope to see you in the neighbourhood soon. - Felicity Austin

It's the question we get more than any other, and the honest answer in the current Brisbane market is usually no. Trade availability is still stretched following the post-2020 building boom, materials pricing hasn't returned to pre-2020 levels and isn't expected to, and the gap between what a renovation costs and what it adds to your eventual sale price has narrowed to the point where overcapit...
