Six things worth leaving the house for this winter

Brisbane does winter well, which most of us forget until we're standing in the sun at a Saturday market in 22 degrees, wondering why we ever complain about the cold. A few things on our radar over the next six weeks.

Regional Flavours at South Bank brings together producers from across Queensland and is one of the better food events on the Brisbane calendar. The Paddington Antique Centre has its winter events calendar running through June and July, worth a look if you've never wandered through. Bardon Bowls Club on a Friday night remains one of the great underrated Inner West evenings, particularly with the heaters out. The build-up to Ekka starts in early August and the city begins to feel it from mid July onwards.

The quieter pleasures are worth a mention too. A walk through the Botanic Gardens before the school holiday crowds arrive. The Powerhouse winter program. Coffee at any of the new openings around Latrobe Terrace and Given Terrace, which have had a quiet but noticeable wave of new operators in the last six months. Ashgrove and Red Hill have their own rhythm right now, and if you haven't walked the Bardon ridge on a clear winter morning, it's worth the effort.

We're putting together a local guide for the team to share with buyers relocating into the area from interstate and overseas. Reply and tell us your favourite winter spot in Paddington, Bardon, Ashgrove, Red Hill, Auchenflower, Toowong or surrounds, and we'll feature reader picks in a future edition.

If you're thinking about a move and want to talk through what the market is doing in your specific suburb rather than the broad-brush headlines, book an appraisal with us and we'll come to you.

There's a persistent myth that winter is the wrong time to list in Brisbane. The data tells a different story. Stock levels drop sharply from late May through July, serious buyers stay active because their life timelines don't pause for the season, and a well-presented home stands out far more in a thinner market than it does competing with thirty spring listings in the same week. Spring feels ...
